Caravaggio on display at the Quirinal Stables

To mark the 400th anniversary of the artist's death, the city of Rome's Special Superintendence of Cultural Heritage, under the High Patronage of the President of the Republic, presents a commemorative show on the brilliant and controversial Lombard artist.
In the unique setting of the Quirinal Stables, the most representative works of Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio will be shown: from more famous pieces such as "Bacchus" (Uffizi) and "David With the Head of Goliath" (Borghese Gallery), to the "Musicians" (Metropolitan) and the "Supper at Emmaus" (National Gallery, London).
A special, innovative show, which follows a rigorous philological program to honor the artist's uniqueness.
The choice to include only signed pieces, while excluding paintings for which attribution to the artist is uncertain as well as works from his school, aims to enhance and focus public attention and criticism on the painter's artistic essence and his revolutionary concept of naturalism.
In addition to the paintings, original documents will be presented, testifying and rebuilding the relationships between Caravaggio, his patrons and the prominent personalities of his time, in an attempt to provide further cues on the interpretation of his work.
